It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
